What can my kids do other than READ these novels?

  • Use Inspiration or Kidspiration to create concept webs as theme openers or as a form of note taking.
  • Use the JASON journal to write journal entries from the point of view or "from the shoes" of one of the characters
  • Use novel information to enhance students' map skills and time zone skills
  • Use Timeliner to create a time line of events (chronology) in the novel or to track non-fictional events found in the story
  • Use 500 Nations (InTech software) for background information on the Inuit
  • Discuss on-line, or in class, characteristics of dogs and possibly use topics mentioned in the books as topics for research activities that result in traditional reports/papers accompanied by a multimedia presentation in KidPix or Power Point
  • Use the author as a focus and have students learn about the author in biographical activities
